Group of women posing and smiling indoors, some holding a glass of wine, celebrating together.

We had an idea…

How many loose chats have you had over a few beers and had an idea? We had a spark of an idea and here we are 7 years later!

It all started at the Hive bar in Sydney’s inner west. (Gadigal’s o.g vinyl bar surely?)

Whether it was crisp sour margaritas perched at the bar, coveted neogronis combined with silly dancing to close, or cradled wine vape huddles, we talked about playing some tunes together and then, well we just did.

From a one-off event to 7 years of DJing together, we’re proud of what we’ve achieved. 1000s of gigs and a lot of silly dancing.

The Hive is Our Hive

Nikki Vircoe Owner of the Hive Bar

“Queen Bee first kicked off at The Hive Bar back in 2018 when we decided to throw a massive party for International Women's Day. It was a fun afternoon to celebrate both women in the Dj community and women in hospitality. We showcased female Djs, wine-makers, distillers, brewers, chefs and visual artists and we raised money for a local women's charity. All these years later, we are still hosting this incredible day every year and raising money for The Women and Girls' Emergency Centre in Redfern, a NFP close to our hearts. The initial fundraising event was a pivotal moment for the female Dj vinyl scene, and for our collective. It was the starting point for something bigger and truly important. From a collective of only a small handful of members, to now close to 50, we have come a long way.”
